From Illness to Healing

Why am I here today, writing these lines? Why did I feel the urge to create this space? Why is it so important for me to share what I have learned—sometimes through pain?

I grew up on the shores of the Mediterranean. A simple place, close to the sea. We ate what the earth provided, we lived by the rhythm of the sun, savoring the taste of real things—just the essentials.

At 18, I decided to leave my home for another European country. I was young, curious, and eager to discover the world. Three years later, around 21, the first issues arose. It started with a pollen allergy. 'Nothing serious,' I told myself at first. But then, it escalated. Fruits. Dairy products. Nuts. Flours, because of gluten. Each year, a new allergy seemed to appear.

To manage all this, I started taking medication. A lot of it. Allergy treatments often contain cortisone. As we all know, and as doctors themselves warn, long-term use of cortisone can take a severe toll on your health. In my case, over time, it really took a heavy toll on my body. I began to swell. My stomach couldn't handle anything, and my intestines were in pain. On top of that, osteoarthritis set in. And then asthma, which I had never experienced before.

I found myself in a critical state. My body, which had always been strong, was breaking down. I couldn't go on like this. I had to stop certain treatments. But without them, what was I to do? The allergies, the asthma, the osteoarthritis… it was all threatening to overwhelm me.

That’s when I turned back to what I had forgotten. To what I had abandoned when I left the Mediterranean. Grandmothers’ recipes. The wisdom of the elders. Natural remedies. The things we find in our kitchens—what nature has to offer us.

I read. I searched. I tested. I listened to my body.

Little by little, things changed. The swelling went down. The pain decreased. The asthma calmed down. I won’t tell you that everything vanished. No. But I regained a level of health I thought I had lost. I reclaimed my body. I found peace again.

Mind you, I didn’t just throw all my medication in the trash overnight. Even today, I still carry an inhaler in my bag, just in case. Natural medicine is my daily ally, but I know that in an emergency, conventional medicine is there to save my life. One does not exclude the other.

Today, I am over forty. I feel good. I am mindful of what I eat and what I drink. I exercise. I have understood one essential thing: we become what we put on our plates. If we eat poorly, if we smoke, if we drink too much, we age prematurely. Diseases appear. And they are appearing earlier and earlier.

I am not a doctor. I am not here to lecture anyone. But I have lived. I have suffered. I have searched. And I have found treasures in tradition, in nature, and in the kitchen.

This site is about sharing all of that. To tell young people: be careful. Eat well. Eat real food. Vegetables, red meat, fish—simple things. Take the time to have a good breakfast, a balanced lunch, and a light dinner. Not too much sugar, not too much alcohol, not too many cigarettes. Move. Take care of yourselves.

Because if you take care of your body when you are young, it will pay you back later. And if, one day, you go through an ordeal like mine, know that there are other paths. Nature has solutions. Our grandmothers knew them. I regained my health thanks to them.

It is this wisdom that I want to share with you. With sincerity. With all my heart.
