These individuals are known for taking initiative, their passion, and a distinct, vibrant energy. This article explores the characteristic personality traits of those with this blood type, as well as nutritional recommendations based on Dr. Peter D’Adamo’s theory.

My Blood Type, My Story

I am O+ myself. Discovering my blood type was largely how I was able to take control of my health again. As I share in "My Story," my body could no longer tolerate chemical medications. Realizing that my O+ type required a specific diet—rich in animal proteins and low in dairy—was a revelation. This doesn’t mean this theory is the absolute truth for everyone, but in my case, it was the key that unlocked my path to healing.

O+ Blood Type Personality Traits

Where does the image of O+ as the "hunter" blood type come from? According to D’Adamo’s theory, O+ is the oldest blood type, dating back to the hunter-gatherer era—which explains its association with traits like strength, instinct, and natural leadership. This same idea also inspired a unique pop culture phenomenon in Japan known as ketsuekigata, which links blood types to personality traits, much like astrology does in the West.

People with O+ blood type are distinguished by several striking personality traits:

Ambitious and Passionate : Their strong drive to achieve their goals often pushes them to the forefront. Their self-confidence can make them natural-born leaders.

Independent and Extroverted : Individuals with this blood type do not hesitate to take the initiative. They tend to be very sociable and enjoy seeing their projects through to completion.

Intuitive and Dynamic : Driven by great energy, they make decisions based on their gut instinct and intuition.

Arrogant and Distrustful : While often charismatic, their strong self-confidence can sometimes be perceived as arrogance. They can also appear distant or distrustful toward others, especially those they do not know well.

A small, important clarification: just like the link between blood type and diet, this link between blood type and personality remains a subject of popular belief rather than a fact validated by science. A Japanese study conducted in 2004 on 1,800 people found no solid evidence of a link between blood type and character traits. This doesn't stop these profiles from being interesting to read — many people recognize themselves in them a little, much like with a horoscope.

Recommended diet for blood type O+

Dr. D’Adamo defines people with O+ blood type as "Hunters," which is reflected in their diet rich in animal-based proteins. Dairy products are generally not recommended to avoid inflammation and weight gain. Here is an overview of the recommended and discouraged foods for this blood type, according to this theory — to be adapted, of course, according to your own experience and needs, as is the case for me personally.

Proteins

Fish and Seafood (to prioritize): Cod, trout, tuna, shrimp, and scallops.

Fish and Seafood (to limit): Squid, octopus, frogs, crabs, and mussels.

Meats (to prioritize): People with O+ blood type can consume all white meats (chicken, turkey) and lean red meats (beef, lamb) without major restriction.

Meats (to avoid): Pork (and bacon) should be avoided entirely, as it is poorly digested by this blood type.

Legumes

To avoid Standard legumes are often poorly tolerated by blood type O+. It is advised to avoid lentils, fava beans, soy, kidney beans, and chickpeas.

In moderation: Azuki beans and black beans can be consumed from time to time.

Healthy Fats

To prioritize : Walnuts, almonds, hazelnuts, olive oil, sesame oil, and almond oil.

To limit : Cashews, sunflower seeds, walnut oil, and sunflower oil.

Dairy Products

To avoid : This is the most important point for blood type O+. All dairy products (milk, yogurt, cheese) should be avoided, as they promote inflammation and digestive issues.

Exception: Buffalo butter can be consumed with great moderation. Plant-based milks should also be limited for this group.

Cereals

To prioritize : Rice and quinoa are the best options for group O+.

To avoid : Wheat (bread, pasta), corn, barley, and oats are to be banned because they contain lectins that disrupt the metabolism of the O+ group.

Fruits and Vegetables

Although the O+ group can consume a wide variety of fruits and vegetables, some must be avoided, in particular: leeks, mushrooms, cucumbers, eggplants, avocados, cherries, kiwis, melons, oranges, apricots, apples, and strawberries.

Beverages

To prioritize : Green tea (an excellent antioxidant for this group), as well as white and red wines (in moderation).

To avoid : Coffee, hard liquors, sodas, beer, and black teas.

Herbs, Condiments, and Sugars

To prioritize : Cilantro (coriander), fennel, curry, dark chocolate (low sugar), mint, and paprika.

To avoid : Ketchup (too sweet), nutmeg, vanilla, and soy sauce.

Physical Activity

: According to Dr. D’Adamo, people with blood type O+ need intense physical activity to release stress and keep their metabolism active. It is recommended to practice cardiovascular exercises such as running, cycling, swimming, or HIIT for 30 to 45 minutes, at least 4 times a week.

I confirm this point through my own experience: even though I don't eat much, as soon as I don't move enough, I start gaining weight. Conversely, when I am active and exercise regularly, I can eat more without gaining weight. For me, movement seems to play an almost more important role than the quantity of food itself.

But physical activity doesn't just affect my weight: it has a direct effect on my mood and my health in general. When I'm signed up for the gym and I move regularly, everything is fine, both physically and mentally. Conversely, as soon as I stop exercising — for example, because of a job where I'm sitting all day — I feel a real difference: I start feeling depressed and my health declines. For me, movement isn't just "good to have," it's a real necessity.

Individuals with blood type O+ are characterized by their ambition, extroversion, and dynamism. They are "Hunters" who, according to this theory, need a diet rich in animal proteins and low in dairy products and modern grains. As we saw in our article on blood types in general, science has not validated this mechanism to date — but personal experience, like mine, can have real value. By adapting one's diet to one's own needs and integrating regular physical activity, one can often optimize their health and well-being, blood type or not.

As always, it is recommended to consult a healthcare professional or a nutritionist before making significant changes to your lifestyle.

<p class="has-ast-global-color-3-color has-text-color has-link-color
